3 Poemas de Guerra y un Sueño
On June 14, Gabriel Alonso (baritone) and Duncan Gifford (pianist) will premiere a new cycle of songs: 'Three poems of war and a dream' with text by Antonio Machado. The project arises from a research work by this singer who, after compiling songs on poems of this writer, decided to commission three cycles from three contemporary composers as part of his final degree performance recital. This is how it will be presented at the Sony Auditorium of the Reina Sofía School of Music (Madrid). In addition to the Borja Mariño cycle, the creations of Juan Durán and Miquel Ortega will be heard.
From Machado's production Mariño decided to avoid the landscapes or sentimental side of his poetry to focus on the last poems where the author faces exile and the ravages of the Spanish Civil War. The songs: Horizonte (Horizon), La Primavera (Spring) and La muerte del niño herido (The death of the wounded boy) give three visions of this dark and little-known stage of the Sevillian poet. Between them (and with an interchangeable position) a little song, Sueño (Dream), is interpolated, a small rest within this general desolation.
The concert, which will be the world première of this cycle, will be broadcast via streaming.
International presentation of the Machado Songs took place on December 4th, 2021 at the Ward Recital Hall (Washington), featuring baritone Gustavo Ahualli and pianist Agustín Muriago.
El próximo 14 de junio el barítono Gabriel Alonso y el pianista Duncan Gifford estrenarán un nuevo ciclo de canciones: Tres poemas de guerra y un sueño con texto de Antonio Machado. El proyecto surge de un trabajo de investigación de este cantante que, tras recopilar canciones sobre poemas de este escritor, decidió encargar tres ciclos a tres compositores contemporáneos como parte de su trabajo performativo de fin de carrera. Así, se presentará en el Auditorio Sony de la Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía. Además del ciclo de Borja Mariño se escucharán las creaciones de Juan Durán y Miquel Ortega.
De la producción machadiana Mariño decidió evitar la visión más paisajista o sentimental de sus poemas para centrarse en sus últimos poemas donde el autor encara el exilio y los estragos de la Guerra Civil española. Las canciones: Horizonte, La primavera y La muerte del niño herido dan tres visiones de esta etapa oscura y poco conocida del poeta sevillano. Entre ellas (y con una posición intercambiable) se interpola Sueño, un pequeño respiro dentro de esta desolación general.
El concierto, que será la primera interpretación mundial de este ciclo, será retransmitido por streaming.
El 4 de diciembre de 2021 tuvo lugar la presentación internacional de este ciclo de canciones sobre Machado, en el Ward Recital Hall de Washington, con interpretación del barítono Gustavo Ahualli y el pianista Agustín Murago.
